Enjoy Gluten-free Sriracha Sauce
There has been a growing public awareness for many years of the dangers of gluten to certain people that have celiac disease. This awareness has increased the production and marketing of certain gluten-free products and has made gluten something to be avoided in everyone diets. Sriracha sauce has always been gluten-free, yet even products like Sriracha sauce, with ingredients consisting only of vegetables, are drawn into the gluten-free question and controversy by the habits of some manufacturers to add gluten-containing ingredients to their products as thickening agents or flavourings.
Flying Goose Sriracha sauce achieves its signature flavours due to the ripeness of our Thai chillies and the unique abilities of our superb chefs. You can rest assured that our Srirachas sauce has always been and will continue to be gluten-free.
What Is Gluten?
Gluten is a protein contained in many wheat, rye, oats and barley grains. It’s commonly found in breads, cereals, and pastas. In addition, gluten is also commonly contained in these foods as a byproduct of being made with grains:
- Soy sauce
- Salad dressings
- Wheat berries
- Canned soups
Gluten doesn’t add nutritional benefits to the food, so doing without it grew in popularity for everyone as a precautionary exercise.
What is Celiac Disease?
Celiac disease is a chronic digestive and autoimmune disorder that flares up with the ingestion of gluten preventing you from absorbing nutrients from your food. Your immune system attacks the small bumps called villi on the walls of your small intestine after ingesting gluten. The villi absorb the nutrients of food. People with celiac disease can also develop inflammation and damage to their intestinal tracts and other areas of the body. The only treatment for the disorder is to avoid gluten.
Celiac disease is genetic and can be passed down from parent to child. It’s also more common in white people and people who have type 1 diabetes, have Down syndrome, are infertile, or have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Many people testing negative for celiac disease can also have adverse reactions to gluten. They are termed as being “gluten-sensitive.” These people experience diarrhea, bloating, or abdominal pain when they eat food containing gluten. This can be caused by a wheat allergy or by unknown causes and has increased the trend towards the development and marketing of gluten-free foods. Many people would rather buy products that are gluten-free than run the risk of harming family members, friends and guests who have an undiagnosed case of celiac disease or a wheat allergy.
